Mike,
I think you came from contractor talk? Anyway I hope your question was answered but wordpress.org not .com is what you want. Point the nameservers to your new hosting company and install wordpress with fantastico or softalicious. I am going to make a free training video on this next week.

I was so frustrated with my inability to have full control of another premium theme until I was introduced to Frugal Theme. I love the total flexibility that it gives. I've watched the videos and I'm pretty convinced that I need to buy this theme.
With the other themes, you either keep hiring someone and keep paying lots of money or you are stuck, unable to do anything. That was my case for so long. With one click, I can import a skin, change the header graphics, do so many other stuff. This is very refreshing!
I will be buying Frugal Theme. Just love it.

Frugal should work fine on older versions of Wordpress, though it may depend on how old. Wordpress 2.9 and newer should be fine.

I tried to upgrade to Wordpress 3.0 this morning, in preparation of buying Frugal and installing it over the weekend.

Now I get an error message that I cannot install 3.0 because the server runs a too low version of MySQL. Since the provider cannot be reached, it seems the only solution is to install an older version of Wordpress.

Will Frugal work with older Wordpress versions, too??

Hi Mike,

My advice would be to leave wordpress.com or other free hosting options like blogger completely out of it. Now that you've registered a domain name, you have to pay someone for web hosting, ie, the place you store all your website files. Web hosting costs around $5-$7 /month. This will mean you have your own domain name & complete control over your website.

You can do this through godaddy if you wish, or any other reputable web hosting company. Just go to their homepage & choose 'webhosting' and follow the prompts to setup an account.

Once your web hosting account is set up, you simply link it back to the domain name that you have secured / bought, ie www.whateveryoubought.com - godaddy staff can help you with this also if you have any dramas. After you've done this it's really easy to set up wordpress (godaddy will help you, most large web hosting companies allow you to login to your account and choose wordpress setup & it's done automatically), then install frugal onto it once your website is up and running. After you buy frugal you will get info on how to install it.

You will probably have to spend a bit of time getting to know how to use wordpress once it's up and running (you login to your own installation of wordpress via /wp-login.php after you have it set up, ie, use your new domain name: www.whateveryoubought.com/wp-login.php)

Maybe get someone who has used wordpress before to talk you through it, or do some research online. Be aware that there's two different types of wordpress - the one you download and install on your own website (recommended), or a free blog setup through wordpress.com (you don't need this if you setup your own website).

Good luck!

Mike,

I can't give an educated answer to your basic question because I'm not familiar with all the details. The link below has all the facts. From a quick read of it, I would say that with wordpress.com, you can pay to use your own domain but they do the hosting. You cannot use Frugal or any other premium theme on wordpress.com unless you get the vip option, which costs money. If you want to use Frugal, you would get a hosting deal with GoDaddy or somewhere else, upload wordpress to your site, which is done by the hoster, and then purchase Frugal and follow instructions for uploading that. Taking that route, I think you'll have more freedom to do what you want with the site. BUT I have NO experience with wordpress.com blog hosting. So you should check out the link below and maybe someone with wordpress.com experience will be able to give you more info.

Thanks Scooter!

I'm still confused about one thing. Do I first go to Wordpress and set up a blog? If I do that they are going to ask me my domain name right. I don't want wordpress in the address.

I'm confused on the order of how it all happens.Should I just go to wordpress right now before I do anything? I just don't want Wordpress to screw this up because they are going to ask me when I set it up right. I just want to make sure I end up with Frugal because after reading last night I am sold on Frugal 100%. Everybody likes it and I can't find any bad remarks about Frugal.

Sorry about the novice question.

Mike,

Frugal IS a great way to go. I have used it to build my website/blog and I can't recommend it highly enough.

What you need to do is call GoDaddy, since you have the domain registered with them (but you are not obligated to host with them, but since you already have the domain, it could be easier) and tell them you want to host a Wordpress blog on your domain. They will set you up with a hosting deal and then help you load Wordpress on your domain. (I think there IS another Wordpress Blog option in which you host your blog on Wordpress.com servers. I don't know anything about that, pros or cons. I think you would not be able to use Frugal or any other premium theme, but I could be wrong. Any other Frugal users please chime in on this!)

I host my site with GoDaddy and Frugal works great, no problems. GoDaddy support is top notch, too, in my experience. So is Frugal's.

Once you're set up with a domain and hosting setup, and Wordpress is loaded on your site, then you can get Frugal and load that and start building the site. From there, Eric's videos are an excellent guide, and so is the forum. Good luck!

Hello

I own a plumbing company and want to build a blog/website. 3 people have now told me to seek you out, they said Frugal was great way to go. I reserved a domain name at Godaddy and that's it. What are my first steps? Do I just start with a free Wordpress blog and pick anything, then come here, pay, and download this. Or can I start with this. This is my first time (as you can tell) and I like what you offer. I'm just not sure of the order I need to proceed.

Thank you
